Badges for the Spanish Classroom

These badges can easily be integrated into the Spanish 1 Classroom to motivate students to go above and beyond expectations.
  1. Beginner
  2. This badge is given to students after completing their first unit.
  3. For Spanish 1, High School Students
  4. Criteria: See below*. Students must be able to check off all of the boxes in at least three of the five standards to move to the next level.
  5. Issuer: Teacher
  6. Evidence: Students will perform at a Beginner level in a reading, listening and speaking performance assessment asking them what their name is, where they are from and how old they are and answering those same questions about someone else. They must answer all questions to get the badge.

  1. Novice Low
  2. This badge is given to students after completing their second unit.
  3. For Spanish 1, High School Students
  4. Criteria: see bellow*. Students must be able to check off all of the boxes in at least three of the five standards to move to the next level.
  5. Issuer: Teacher
  6. Evidence: Students will perform at a Novice Low level in an integrated performance task at the end of the unit. They must perform at level to get the badge. 
  1. Novice Mid
  2. This badge is given to students after completing their third unit.
  3. For Spanish 1, High School Students
  4. Criteria: see below*. Students must be able to check off all of the boxes in at least three of the five standards to move to the next level.
  1. Issuer: Teacher
  2. Evidence: Students will perform at a Novice Mid level in an integrated performance task at the end of the unit. They must perform at level to get the badge.

  2. This badge is given to students after completing their fourth and final unit. (If students stays at Novice mid they can receive a star for their badge)
  3. For Spanish 1, High School Students
  4. Criteria: see below*. Students must be able to check off all of the boxes in at least three of the five standards to move to the next level.

  6. Evidence: Students will perform at a Novice High level in an integrated performance task at the end of the unit. They must perform at level to get the badge.

  2. This badge is given to students after completing extra reading assignments
  3. For Spanish 1, High School Students
  4. Criteria: Students must read and comprehend at a Novice Mid
  5. Issuer: Teacher
  6. Evidence: Students will read extra short stories and get 100% of the comprehensions questions right at least 5 times.

  2. This badge is given to students after completing extra listening assignments
  3. For Spanish 1, High School Students
  4. Criteria: Students must read and comprehend at a Novice Mid
  5. Issuer: Teacher
  6. Evidence: Students will listen to extra listening assignments and get 100% of the comprehensions questions right at least 10 times.

  2. This badge is given to students after completing extra writing assignments
  3. For Spanish 1, High School Students
  4. Criteria: Students must read and comprehend at a Novice Mid
  5. Issuer: Teacher
  6. Evidence: Students will write extra writing assignments stories and meet Novice Mid Standards at least 5 times.

  2. This badge is given to students after completing extra writing assignments
  3. For Spanish 1, High School Students
  4. Criteria: Students must read and comprehend at a Novice Mid
  5. Issuer: Teacher
  6. Evidence: Students will do extra speaking assignments and meet Novice Mid Standards at least 5 times. At least 3 of the assignments have to be about other people, not yourself.

  2. This badge is given to students that cook something Hispanic for the class
  3. For Spanish 1, High School Students
  4. Criteria: Students must cook a Hispanic dish for the class.
  5. Issuer: Teacher
  6. Evidence: Students will bring in a dish, explain where it is from, how it is made and what is in the dish.

  2. This badge is given to students that learn how to dance a Hispanic Dance.
  3. For Spanish 1, High School Students
  4. Criteria: Students must learn the steps to a Hispanic Dance
  5. Issuer: Teacher
  6. Evidence: Students will explain to the teacher (and possibly to the class if they are not shy) the steps of the dance they choose and share a song.

1 – Beginner

3  - Novice Mid

☐ I can write about myself using learned phrases and memorized expressions.
☐ I can list my daily activities and write lists that help me in my day-to-day life.
☐ I can write notes about something I have learned using lists, phrases, and memorized expressions.

4 – Novice High
☐ I can write information about my daily life in a letter, blog, discussion board, or email message.
☐ I can write short notes using phrases and simple sentences.
☐ I can write about a familiar experience or event using practiced material.
☐ I can write basic information about things I have learned.
☐ I can ask for information in writing.
